Citizen Police Academy
The Indiana University Police Department at IUPUI is now accepting applications
for its Citizen Police Academy scheduled to begin January 8 th,
2008. The program will be a 12-week training session. Applications are available
at the Campus Police Headquarters, 1232 W. Michigan Street., on the IUPUI Campus.

The purpose of the Citizen Police Academy is to increase understanding of the duties
and responsibilities of University Police Officers, which can foster cooperative
problem solving between police and the University Community.
There is no charge for the classes that are designed to give citizens a taste
of the training police officers are provided before being assigned to duty. Topics
include:
- POLICE TRAINING - Indiana Law Enforcement Academy
- USE OF FORCE - Highlights the Force Continuum
- UNIFORM DIVISION - Patrol Duties, Bicycle Patrol
- CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION - Management/Evidence Collection
- FINGERPRINT DEVELOPMENT - Different Methods
In addition, the opportunity to train with the Firearms Automated Training System
F.A.T.S. [no live fire shooting], traffic stop scenarios and the department's
Ride-A-Long program will be available.
The 12-week session will be held every Tuesday starting January 8 - May 4th,
2008. Classes are conducted on the IUPUI Campus from 6:00 p.m. to
9:00 p.m. One or two Saturday classes may also be scheduled.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and be subject to a criminal history
check.
