Traffic Alert for Friday evening, May 2nd and Saturday, May 3rd 2008

The “OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon” will be held on Saturday, May 3rd. 

Set-up for the race may affect traffic on major streets Friday evening and the Saturday event will greatly affect both traffic and parking on-campus. 

This marathon will involve over 38,000 participants.

  • The race will begin at 7:30 a.m. near the corner of West and Washington Streets. 
  • New York St. between University Blvd. and West Street will be closed from Friday at 6:00 p.m. through Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
  • Both Blackford and California Streets south of Vermont St. will be closed during this time. 
  • West St. will be closed from Ohio to Michigan St from 2:00 a.m. on Saturday through 2:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
  • West St will be closed from Washington St. to Ohio from Saturday at 3:30 a.m. and should re-open at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. 
  • Washington St. will be closed from 3:30 a.m. on Saturday until 9:30 a.m. from Illinois to west of West St..

Easiest access to campus before and during the race will be from the West Street exits of I 65 (Exit 114) to Michigan Street and on Michigan Street from the east.

Traffic Alert Race for the Cure for Friday evening,

April 18th and Saturday, April 19th, 2008

“Race for the Cure” will be held on Saturday, April 19th.   Set-up for the race may affect traffic on major streets Friday evening and the Saturday event will greatly affect both traffic and parking on-campus. 

The race will begin and end on New York St. and will involve more than 35,000 participants. 

  • New York St. will be closed during the event on Saturday morning, 4/19, possibly as early at 7:00 a.m. and should re-open by 1 p.m.
  • Blackford St. (from Michigan St. to the Canal) will be closed from 6 a.m. until 1 p.m. 
  • University Blvd. south of Michigan will close at 8:00 a.m.   
  • Anyone needing access to the Natatorium and the Sports Center will have to use Barnhill Dr. and should plan to park in lots north of New York St. 
  • Any one parked south of New York St. after 7:30 a.m. should expect to be there until approximately 11:00 a.m.

The easiest access to campus before and during the race will be from the West St. exits of I-65 (Exit 114).  Students & faculty coming from the east should use Michigan St. and those coming from the west should use 10th St.

The Blackford St. garage and Lot 80 will be reserved for IUPUI permits during this event.

Traffic on Michigan St. and West St. will be congested before the event.

Open House for Bike lanes on New York and Michgan Streets.

The Indianapolis Department of Public Works (DPW) cordially invites you to attend an open house for the Indianapolis Bicycle Improvement Program, Phase 1. The city will add bike lanes to the Michigan Street and New York Street corridor and extends to White River Parkway to Arlington Avenue.

The open house is scheduled for Thursday, February 28, 2008 from 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. and will be held at the Atrium of the Crispus Attucks Middle School located at 1140 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street.

Public comments are welcome and encouraged.

All DPW meeting locations are accessible to persons with disabilities. If special accommodations are needed, please contact the community

outreach coordinator at (317) 327-5238.

 

Street Restrictions for Stadium and Convention Center Work

In preparation for the opening of Lucas Oil Stadium, demolition of the RCA Dome and expansion of the Indiana Convention Center, utility work is underway that will impact traffic on neighboring streets through the rest of January.

South Street will remain closed until Jan. 31 between Capitol Avenue and Missouri Street for sewer relocation to make way for the Lucas Oil Stadium tunnel.  East bound traffic is being detoured north on Missouri Street to Maryland Street, east to Capitol Avenue, then south to South Street.   West bound traffic is being detoured south on Capitol Avenue to McCarty Street, west to Missouri Street, then north to South Street.  Signage indicating the detour routes is posted.  This project will also involve sidewalk closures on South Street and Capitol Avenue.

West Street between the railroad underpass and South Street has three lanes closed until Feb. 29 to allow steam and chilled water lines to cross the street.  At least one lane on West Street will remain open throughout the project.

Missouri Street between South and Maryland streets will remain open through Jan. 31 except for some occasional curb lane closures to restore curbs and sidewalks.

Maryland Street will remain open through Jan. 31 with no lane closures expected for this project at this time.

Capitol Avenue just north of South Street will have the west curb lane closed until Jan. 31 for the tunnel project.  At least one lane on Capitol Avenue will remain open throughout the project.

"No Parking" signs will be posted at the following locations Friday, Oct. 5, for the  American Family Insurance Classic Parade to be held Saturday, Oct. 6:

  • Ohio, Vermont, North, Walnut, St. Clair, 9th and St. Joseph streets between Delaware and Illinois streets.
  • New York Street between Pennsylvania and Illinois streets.
  • Michigan Street between Pennsylvania and Meridian streets.
  • Ft. Wayne Street between North and Walnut/Delaware streets.

Indiana Black Expo Summer Celebration June 16-22, 2007

Michigan Street will be closed again July 7th 6 a.m. till July 8th 6 p.m. west of University Blvd. for pedestrian bridge construction.

Closing is for the placement of the pedestrian cross walk, from the Vermont St. garage to the new construction at University Hospital

Michigan Street at University Blvd. will be closed June 29, 2007 at 6:00 pm and will reopen Sunday at 3:00 pm July 1, 2007.

June 18 through Sunday, June 24 2007 AT&T USA Track and Field Championship

Monday, June 18 through Sunday, June 24, the IU Michael A. Carroll Track and Soccer Stadium on the IUPUI campus will host the "2007 AT&T USA Track and Field Championship" from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. each day. Pedestrian and vehicular traffic around the stadium is expected to be heavy with delays possible.

New York Street from the White River bridge to West Street will be restricted as follows during this event:

Sidewalk closed south side of street June 20-24

Pedestrians Should Detour to Vermont Street as Construction Closes Michigan Sidewalk

As construction of the Campus Center and Cancer Center on the IUPUI campus close sidewalk sections along Michigan Street, pedestrians should use Vermont Street as the southern route between University Boulevard and Barnhill Drive.

Beginning at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, June 6, 2007, Hunt Construction will close the sidewalk along the south side of Michigan Street from University Boulevard west to the Vermont Street Garage.  This sidewalk section will remain closed 14 days to allow for construction of a new sidewalk for the Campus Center building.

The Campus Center sidewalk adjoins the sidewalk section recently closed as part of the Cancer Center construction project.  Crews closed the south Michigan Street sidewalk between the Campus Center and Barnhill Drive for construction of a new sky bridge that will cross Michigan Street to connect the Vermont Street Garage and the Cancer Center. This sidewalk section will remain closed until the hospital opens in 2008.

 

On Saturday, April 14, 2007, the 500 Festival will hold a 15K training run to help people train for the 500 Festival Mini-Marathon. Saturday, April 21, 2007 at 9:00am the Breast Health Awareness League will sponsor “RACE FOR THE CURE”. They are expecting a combined total of 40,000 participants for the event.

 through Monday, April 23, 1200 hrs.  (Arrow board will be placed on Vermont by event organizers.)-Dumpster will be placed along the curb.

 

Blackford, New York to Canal, east curb lane from Friday, April 20 at 0900 hrs. through Monday, April 23, 1200 hrs. Kroger truck and recycle dumpster will be place along curb.

 

New York, University to Blackford, - North curb lane - from Friday, April 20, 0900 hrs to

Sunday, April 22, 1300 hrs (Arrow board placed on New York, east of University). This will

allow people to unload items into the Library Lawn area.

 

New York, Blackford to West St – south curb lane – from Friday, April 20 at 1200

Saturday, April 21 at 1300 hrs. This will allow people to unload items into Military Park.

Blackford, Michigan to Canal closed from 0600 to 1200 hrs. (all volunteers and VIPs will use Vermont to access IUPUI parking lots instead of using Blackford)

* University Blvd. (south of Michigan) CLOSED from 0800 hours until New York Street opens for vehicle traffic.

 

Team buses will start parking along the south lane of New York from University Blvd heading west. Buses will start to arrive after New York has cleared of all participants after the One-Mile start (approximately 10:15).

March 16, 2007

On Friday March 16,2007 the Indy Sports Foundation will host the “Shamrock 5 mile Run and 5K Walk.

The course and schedule of events is as follows:

0700 - 0930 hrs. South bound traffic on University Blvd.

from New York Street will be closed to all traffic for staging of runners and will reopen when notified.

0900 hrs. Shamrock 5 mile run official start.

Patterson Street

August 11, 2006

Patterson Street's one-way direction will change at or after August 11, 2006 at 5 p.m.  The street will become one-way northbound.  Vermont Street will become a dead-end street at the east entrance of the Vermont Street Garage.

 It is hoped that this will provide relief for the traffic tie ups we experience in the evenings on Patterson at New York Street by giving parkers in the lots on both sides of Patterson the ability to go east or west from both parking lots.

 

University Boulevard

June 12-17, 2006

University Boulevard will be closed between Michigan and New York Streets The week of June 12th for construction related to the Campus Center.

Remember for the Mini-Marathon New York Street at University Boulevard closes at 6 p.m. on Friday May 5th.   No traffic will be allowed east from University Boulevard on New York Street after 6 p.m. on Friday.

“OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon” will be held on Saturday May 6th.  This marathon will involve approximately 35,000 participants and will greatly affect both traffic and parking on-campus.

Street closings start on Friday.  New York St. from University Blvd. to West St. will be closed from Friday at 6:00 p.m. through Saturday at 2:00 p.m.  Both Blackford and California Streets south of Vermont St. will also be closed during this time.

The race will begin at 7:30 a.m. near the corner of West and Washington Streets and will officially end at approximately noon.   West St. will be closed from Ohio to Michigan St from 2:00 a.m. on Saturday through 2:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.  West St will be closed from Washington St. to Ohio from Saturday at 3:30 a.m. and should re-open at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.  Washington St. will be closed from 3:30 a.m. on Saturday until 9:30 a.m. from Illinois to west of West St.

Easiest access to campus before and during the race will be from the West Street exits of I 65 (Exit 114) to Michigan Street and on Michigan Street from the east.  The Blackford Street garage and Lot 80 will be reserved for IUPUI permits during this event

Wishard Boulevard

Construction on Phase 5 of Riley Hospital will require changes in traffic patterns on the north side of the hospital. Beginning January 16th, Wishard Boulevard between West Drive and Wilson Street will be closed to traffic until the project is completed. The target date for completion is December 2009.

 Other traffic changes related to construction:

On Dec. 26, signage will be posted on 10th Street and around the construction site directing traffic to the Riley Outpatient Center.

On Dec. 30, parking lots 7 and 8 will close.

On Jan. 16, fencing will be erected around the construction site.
